AVID Advancement Via Individual Determination AVID's mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.
CAASPP California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress The CAASPP are a series of assessments given in the state of California that include the Smarter Balanced Assessments (SBA) in English Language Arts and Mathematics; California Alternative Assessments (CAA) in English Language Arts, Mathematics and Science; California Science Test (CAST); and the California Spanish Assessment (CSA). Assessment results are published and made available to families in the CAASPP Student Score Report (SSR)
CTE Career Technical Education Career technical education (CTE) provides students and adults with the academic and technical skills, knowledge and training necessary to succeed in future careers and develop skills they will use throughout their careers.
DELAC District English Learner Advisory Committee Each District with 51 or more ELs must establish a functioning District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC).
EL English Learner An English learner is a K-12 student who, based on the results of the English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC), has not developed listening, speaking, reading, and writing proficiencies in English sufficient for participation in the regular school program.
ELAC English Learners Advisory Comittee Schools with 21 or more English learners are required to establish an English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC). All parents with students attending the school with an ELAC are eligible and encouraged to participate in the ELAC.
ELD English Language Development English Language Development (ELD) is instruction designed specifically for English language learners to develop their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English.
ELPAC English Language Proficiency Assessment for California ELPAC is the required state test for English language proficiency (ELP) that must be given to students whose primary language is a language other than English.
GPA Grade Point Average A grade point average is a number representing the average value of the accumulated final grades earned in courses over time.
IEP Individualized Education Program A written plan created for a student with learning disabilities by the student's teachers, parents or guardians, the school administrator, and other interested parties. The plan is tailored to the student's specific needs and abilities and outlines goals for the student to reach. The IEP should be reviewed at least once a year.
LCAP Local Control and Accountability Plan A plan that describes how the District intends to meet annual goals for all students, with specific activities to address state and local priorities.
LTEL Long-tern English Learners Long-term English learners (LTELs) are those English learner students who have completed six full years in U.S. schools (i.e., beginning their seventh year and beyond) without meeting criteria for reclassification.
PTSA Parent Teacher Student Association PTSA is a volunteer association where parents, educators, students, and other citizens can be active in their schools and communities.
RFEP Reclassified to Fluent English Proficient English learners are reclassified to fluent English proficient based on multiple criteria that align with California Education Code.
SARB School Attendance Review Board The mission of the School Attendance Review Board (SARB) is to help students stay in school, attend school regularly and graduate. SARB is a community-based effort to bring together resources to assist families with attendance and truancy issues.
SART School Attendance Review Team SART is a School Site Team which includes the parent and the student, Principal and the School Attendance Review Board Chairperson. The goal of this team is to identify possible solutions to improving the students' attendance and/or behavior.
SEL Social and Emotional Learning Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for Appendix others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.
SPSA School Plan for Student Achievement The SPSA is a blueprint to improve the academic performance of all students to the level of the targeted performance goals
SSC School Site Council The School Site Council (SSC) function is to ensure that all federal parental involvement mandates are met, specifically Title I Parent and Family Engagement Policy, School-Parent Compact, and parent engagement budget.
