STEM Sailing Academy

The STEM Sailing Academy at Buena Park Middle School is a yearlong program for Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) students, in partnership with the US Sailing Foundation's "REACH" curriculum and the Long Beach Yacht Club. The US Sailing Foundation first launched the “REACH” curriculum to inspire schools to use sailing as an educational platform and to challenge students to explore Science - Technology - Engineering - Math (STEM)-based careers. Through the "REACH" program, students study ocean exploration, ocean conservation, and sailing at the Long Beach Yacht Club and then apply their knowledge in real world conditions on an actual sail boat.
