FFA Ag Science/ Horticulture
The Ag Science program has been fully aligned with the national FFA organization, and Buena Park Middle School was recently designated as a middle school FFA -- the first in Orange County and one of only 15 in California. All students in this course are part of the Buena Park Middle School FFA Chapter CA0608 and have the opportunity to work on an independent Supervised Agriculture Experience (SAE) project. Participants learn a variety of technical skills -- including plant classification, anatomy, nutrient requirements, growing media, plant propagation techniques, landscape design and installation, irrigation installation, and management practices for plant production and sales -- and gain an understanding of the diverse careers in the plant science field. Additionally, students learn about the human impact and responsibility towards the natural world. Students in this program have the opportunity to earn their FFA Discovery Degree.
